Here was a cool read on what the Emerald Dream actually is, and how it is connected to the races of Azeroth. =) Definitely looking forward to seeing it implemented.

Emerald Dream
Taken From WoWWiki

The Emerald Dream

The waking Dream of Creation and verdant realm of the Dragon Aspect Ysera. The Emerald Dream, as the realm of the wild, appears to those who travel within it as Azeroth would have appeared without the development of the sentient races. It is what Azeroth would have been if not for humans, elves and other intelligent creatures. This plane shows travelers what their world would be if intelligent races had not cut forests, farmed prairies, diverted rivers and built cities. It is a vision of the world as a verdant natural paradise. Verdant forests stretch away in every direction, and rolling hills and majestic mountains mimic Azeroth’s landscape.

Indeed, Azeroth and the Emerald Dream are quasi-duplicates of each other — the Emerald Dream is Azeroth as seen through a magic lens. The mountains in Azeroth are in the same places in the Emerald Dream; but where a human metropolis stands in Azeroth, a lush field, vacant of artifice, grows in the Green Dream. Nature is in a perfect balance in the Emerald Dream. Animals of all types inhabit the world, including some that are extinct on Azeroth and subspecies that never got the chance to evolve. Many fey creatures — such as sprites, dryads and keepers of the grove — also roam the Emerald Dream. Creatures from Azeroth constantly visit the Emerald Dream, though they may or may not know it. Dreaming creatures arrive in the Emerald Dream and often have prophetic and helpful visions.

Druids enter the plane through their connection with nature. While within the dream, the traveler can, through exercise of will, view the waking world and to a limited extent interact with it (as presumably all aspects of the world have some connection to the Emerald Dream). Accessing the Emerald Dream via more conventional magic is possible, but the plane’s natives look with disfavor upon intruders.

The entire plane is the dominion of Ysera, the mighty green dragon Aspect, and she and her brood ensure that none despoil this paradise. For all its wonder, the Emerald Dream is not without its dangers. Those who visit via their dreams are welcomed and enfolded within the natural balance, but those who bring their physical selves face suspicion and hostility.

The Druid Malfurion Stormrage made use of the Emerald Dream to enter into the palace of Queen Azshara and thwart the plans of Lord Xavius. Ysera herself and a great number of the green dragonflight reside in the dream either permanently or occassionally, as do the vast majority of the Night Elf Druids. As part of an ancient pact made between Ysera and Malfurion Stormrage, the druids are required to spend long periods of time sleeping in the Emerald Dream in exchange for their powers over the forces of nature, presumably so that they will better appreciate that which they have pledged themselves to preserve. Recently, strange events have been transpiring within the Emerald Dream and it appears that Malfurion himself may be trapped within its confines.

A darker force has found its way into the Emerald Dream as well. Called the Nightmare, this mobile area of corruption stems from the twisted thoughts and fears of sleeping beings’ subconscious minds. The Nightmare travels slowly through the Emerald Dream, leaving corrupted, vicious animals and Unwaking travelers in its path. None, not even Ysera, knows why the Nightmare exists — nor why its boundaries grow.

A good post on the matter by a lore buff.

"Mmmm... Nothing like Emerald Nightmare twisted Green Dragons.

Hakkar, you filthy beast, good job giving us some new challenges!

As for you all, allow me to enlighten you on one of the current theories regarding the existance of these Dragons.

World of Lorecraft: The Emerald Nightmare

This particular story is one currently under debate by many people. Further, it is still just theory. Take the information here as simply that until the truth has been revealed. This is merely the consensus that has been reached about the current situation within the Emerald Dream.

In the recent years, the Gurubashi and Atal'ai Trolls have been reuniting and reaffirming ancient ties. In this, worship of the ancient Serpent God of Old, Hakkar, was renewed in Stranglethorn Vale and spread to many of the other Troll tribes, including those currently inhabiting Zul'farrak in Tanaris to the home of the Vilebranch Trolls, Jintha'alor. This also provided the Atal'ai Trolls with fresh bodies and trollpower to renew their dark arts in the worship of Hakkar.

This also has allowed them to summon Hakkar forth into our world once again.

Hakkar, to quote the texts, was an ancient spirit of evil. A vile, bloodthirsty spirit of great power. He is what the Trolls refer to as a Loa God. It is believed that the Loa are spirits of Nature and the Creatures of the world, powerful entities that they worship as Gods. Or, perhaps a Loa Gods are otherwise. Perhaps they are leftovers from the power of the Old Gods. Perhaps they are Ancients, like Cenarius or Agamaggan. This will be clarified more in Zul'Gurub.

One thing we know about Hakkar... By giving him sacrifices and more willing servants, Hakkar the Soulflayer became stronger and stronger still.

Dreaming of entering the mortal world, Hakkar's only desire is to feast on the blood and souls of all living things. A terrible Serpent God with surprising powers and horrifying powers. Whatever the Loa Gods are, they are powerful entities indeed... and could tip the balance of the mortal world.

Yet, Hakkar's power was not complete. He was unable to enter the Mortal World to feast as he desired. But now, with the reunion of the Atal'ai and the Gurubashi Trolls, Hakkar's worship grew once again. The Lost Temple of Atal'Hakkar flourished in the Swamp of Sorrows... as the preparations were made to bring Hakkar into our world.

However, the growing energies drew the attention of the ever watchful Dragons. Ysera's Green Dragonflight, tied so closely with the forces of Nature, felt this disturbance as Hakkar was coming closer and closer to being brought to our world. Ysera herself sent one of her children to crush the Lost Temple, and sink it under the swamps. The wrath of the Dragons was swift and brutal. Many Trolls died in the attack, while others fled towards Zul'gurub to warn them of what the Dragons had done.

The Priests of Atal'Hakkar were not without their defenses, however, and Hakkar himself was not powerless.

The Priests raised a dark barrier inside their sunken temple behind which the Dragons couldn't attack them. Maintained by spectral, undead Trolls, the Green Dragons were helpless to kill the Prophet of Hakkar. The Prophet, Jammal'an, called upon Hakkar. And... Hakkar answered.

Hakkar struck a painful blow, attacking Eranikus, the Adult Dragon sent by Ysera and instantly killed him. By transforming him into a Shade, Hakkar gained access, through Eranikus' own connection, to the Emerald Dream. The Drakes and Dragonspawn that served Eranikus, his own children and followers, were swept up by this attack. Becoming darker and more corrupt, they became guardians over a sleeping, dreaming Shade of the Dragon that Eranikus once was. Hakkar's corruption swept into the Emerald Dream like a storm, and a wide section of it was transformed. Many of the Green Flight suffered grievously in this, and likely even Ysera herself was caught up in this dark act.

Feeling the disturbance, the Archdruid Furion Stormrage himself entered the Emerald Dream. He hasn't been seen since he did, and no one knows if he is even still alive.

One ancient Elder Druid, sleeping in the caverns below the Barrens, was caught in the Corruption. His Emerald Dreaming became an Emerald Nightmare. Horrible creatures emerged from his sleeping mind, and his once students were transformed in belief and stricture... becoming the first Druids of the Fang, druids capable of commanding the Serpent Creatures created by the sleeping Elder, and transforming into Serpents themselves.

The Wailing Caverns was born.

In recent times, more Greens have taken up guardianship around the Sunken Temple, unsure what to do without the guidance of Ysera. They turn all away, killing those who try to enter the Sunken Temple if they can. Recently four Portals that have stood silent have gained dangerous groups of guardian Green Dragons. These Portals are rumored to lead to the Emerald Dream.

One is in Boughshadow, in the Northeast corner of Ashenvale Forest. Heavily guarded by terrible Dragonspawn and a Drake leading them.
The Second is in Seradane, north of the home of the Vilebranch Trolls. Worshipers of Hakkar and the Scions of Ysera glare at one another from across the Hinterlands.
The Third is in Feralas. Known as Dream Bough, it is filled with many Green Dragonspawn and lead as the others by a near adult Drake.
The Fourth is in Duskwood, in the Twilight Grove. Mysteriously unguarded, it stands in a silent, twilight world. It is currently unknown why no Dragonspawn or Drakes guard this portal.

It is believed by adventurers, sages, and the Druids that something terrible has happened in the Emerald Dream. The Emerald Nightmare is what many Adventurers are calling it, and many are trying to find a way past the Dragons and into the Dream. Some wish to find Furion, others to save the Emerald Dream, while others go for the Power that must await them on the Emerald Dream.

What awaits them when they finally can enter the Emerald Dream? "

I would like to add to your long ass post Calias that the quest in troll places for the Tablets of Mosh'aru speak of Hakkar.

The text of the first quest:

The ancient prophecy of Mosh'aru speaks of a way to contain the god Hakkar's essence. It was written on two tablets and taken to the troll city of Zul'Farrak, west of Gadgetzan.

Bring me the Mosh'aru tablets!

The first tablet is held by the long-dead troll Theka the Martyr. It is said his persecutors were cursed into scarabs and now scuttle about his shrine.

The second tablet is held by the hydromancer Velratha, near the sacred pool of Gahz'rilla.

When you have the tablets, bring them to me.

Text of the 2nd quest:

The Prophecy of Mosh'aru speaks of an ancient egg. It is a relic of a time when trolls ruled vast empires, and it has the power to hold the essence of Hakkar. It may be the only way to keep our world safe from his evil.

Bring me the ancient egg, Altiara. It is said to lay hidden deep within Jintha'Alor in the Hinterlands, in a cave behind the amphitheater at the top of the city.

Quest 3:

Now it is time to capture the essence of the avatar of Hakkar.

Take the Egg of Hakkar to the Sanctum of the Fallen God in the Sunken Temple in Azeroth. Invoke the egg's power to stir the dead god.

He will send his minions against you. Defeat his bloodrinkers and take their Hakkari blood, then use the blood to dowse the eternal flames that hold Hakkar's spirit. When all the flames go out, the avatar of Hakkar will enter our world.

Defeat him, and place his essence within the egg of Hakkar.

Quest 4:

The troll with whom you spoke did not tell the truth. The two tablets you gained for him spoke of containing the essence of Hakkar, but there is more to that legend. I have studied long, and found that there are six Tablets of Mosh'aru, not two! Six!

And I fear that we will not like what secrets the others hold..

Find the third and fourth tablets of Mosh'aru. They're in the Eastern Plaguelands, held by the mossflayer trolls. Find them, and bring them to me.

Quest 5:

While I look over the third and fourth tablets of Mosh'aru, you must find the fifth and sixth! It will not be easy, for they are held by the Smolderthorn trolls within Blackrock Spire. The spire is a dark mountain of fire between the Burning Steppes and the Searing Gorge.

Good luck, <insert name>. Blackrock Spire is no place for decent folk...

Quest 6:

My delvings into the Mosh'aru Tablets bear grim news, <insert name>. Hakkar's true form, the god himself, can be born again through the very egg into which you captured him. Yeh'kinya told you it was to contain his evil, but it is to recreate it! The troll has led you astray!

Go to Yeh'kinya and demand the egg from him. Pray that it is not too late to stop Hakkar's return!

haha.

Well, just to clarify. Hakkar enslaved the 8 tribes of the trolls, corrupted the emerald dream, killed Erinakas, enslaved him, yseras most trusted dragons, maybe malfurion, all while dead. The spirit of Hakkar the soulflayer is more powerful then anything we have faced.

We severed his ties to the Loa gods, then tricked him into poisoning himself.

Look what is plague did to Ironforge and Orgrimar.
