Naturally one of the first questions was about the new un-announced Alliance race to be featured in the expansion. Metzen gave no hints, and implied that they're still working out all the details. But he did acknowledge that once everyone hears about the new race, part of it will make sense, and part of it will make everyone go "huh?" ...We can't even speculate. (But it won't be Pandas.)

The writer's assumption. Not a dev response unless theres proof.

Pandas make sense and has the "Huh?' thing to it.

http://www.battle.net/war3/pandaren/

Quote:
The Pandaren Empire, founded in ancient times, before the Great Sundering of the world, shared resources and mystic knowledge with the haughty night elves of central Kalimdor. However, as the night elves' racial obsession with the forces of magic drove them to the brink of madness, the gentle pandaren decided to sever their ties and leave the night elves behind forever. Sensing that magic would be the doom of any race that trifled with it, the pandaren clans, or shao'dins, traveled far into the treacherous lands of the south. There the pandaren established crude, but beautiful cities of stone and sturdy bambus reed. They lived in peace for many generations before the burning shadow came to engulf the world...

After the War of the Ancients and the subsequent Sundering of the world, the pandaren's surroundings became increasingly hostile. Forced to fight for food and precious land against both the early tauren and the bristling quilboar tribes, they developed into amazingly proficient warriors. Wielding thin, delicately balanced blades, the pandaren wardancers quickly established themselves as some of the deadliest swordsmen of the ancient world. With the wardancers leading their armies, the pandaren carved out a small empire for themselves in the Stonetalon region of Kalimdor's desolate Barrens. Though the fierce wardancers maintained peace throughout the pandaren lands, their relatively small population would ensure that their influence would never spread much farther than the Barrens' rocky borders.

Now that war has engulfed Kalimdor once again, the mighty pandaren have come forth to protect their sacred lands and ensure their ancient race's survival.

Pandas live on Kalimdor. What else on Kalimdor would make any sort of sense?

The thing is, a new race needs a new starting area (preferabbly). The Blood elves as you know originate in Quel'Thalas, which is the region to the north east of the plaguelands. If there is to be another race, it will most likely have its own starting area as well. With the lvl 60-70 areas going to be mainly through the dark portal, my best guess is that we can expect the new alliance race to come from the Hyjal region. Now, what kind of race can originate from Hyjal? Another possibility would be a race from the islands near the maelstrom, howver those islands are dominated by trolls and murlocs; with the naga living underneath it in there city of Nazjatar With nothing better to do then wait for the patch, if you have any ideas as to what this race could be just remember these boundaries.

It will have to be able to ride a mount (Eliminates Dryads)
It has a race backstory already, they arent going to make one up
Naga are allied with Blood Elves.

I think it will be the Draenei, but I hope its not.
I hope its the nerubs, as they fought against the blood elves and the scourge in northrend, and would put them on a new frontier for starting area.

Ideas?

It's not going to be god damn pandas. Accept it and get over it. That whole Pandaran bit was started as an April Fool's joke.

Best part:

Comedy ensued when a man in a Murloc costume grabbed the microphone and demanded reparitions from the cruel treatment lavished on his people, even to the point of giving "his children" away as a freebie during the event. (Everyone who attended Blizzcon got a code that they could use to unlock a baby Murloc pet in-game.) "When we make that 'Glurbleglurblgerglug' noise, that's not us screaming. That's us crying!" he said. The Murloc got no sympathy from the development team, and one of them pointed out that Blood Elf newbies will have an obligatory "kill a bunch of Murlocs" quest.

I am sorta leaning towards Furbolgs possibly. They have had many animations added for them in 1.8 and the non corrupted ones are closley allied with the Night Elves and are one of the few bipedal races that were actually tied to the Human and Night Elf armies.

The new race would need to have its capital/starting area in Kalimdor as the Blood Elves have theres in the Eastern Kingdoms. I guess Pandarens can be a possiblity but would want to hurt Blizzard if they did :p

Apparently Pandarens were orginally the new alliance race but the chinese goverment made a big deal of it due to pandas being saced in China. That in turn made Blizzard change there mind which would also explain why we are waiting to see the alliance race.

well what gets me is that cows are scared in India.. but yet we have them running around in game. Or simply because Chinas gov is a little more important or the fact that India hasnt heard of WoW or just doesnt really care.
