Well I've never bothered to upgrade to SP2 because I've always been under the belief that it was basically just a security update. I run a linux box as a dedicated firewall with Smoothwall so I've never been too interested in Windows security options, as I take care of all of that on my own. My mobo is an Asus A7N8X-X and as far as I know all the proper drivers are installed. I haven't updated the bios since I got it, as that never really crossed my mind. How would I go about ensuring I have the correct chipset installed? Awake, I'm downloading the first program now, I'll let you know what it finds when it's finished running. Also going to go through that other post and try out all the steps and see if that helps. Looks like a lot of good info. On a side note, when I minimize or tab out of WoW, the CPU usage goes back to normal (as I write this im at ~10% usage with WoW minimized in the background), so it only jumps up to 100% usage when WoW is maximized (I play in windowed mode). Don't know if that makes any difference or not. |

It's important you update EVERYTHING at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Let it update -everything-. SP2 is far from just a security update. It's a must, really. There seem to be some that don't bother about it, it's silly and stupid not to update. I mentioned it in my other post already. Same goes for Directx (make sure you have the latest version). Check my other post for that as well. It's like saying, hey.. I want to keep my black and white TV, I thought the newer generation TV's was just a bit more black and white.. but no, it's with color. Edit: Yeah, Darko.. make sure you do everything I mentioned in my other post; defrag (perfectdisk), scandisk.. etc. |

./agree SP2 is a must...it is tons more than a security update, it actually fixes alot of windows performance issues.... and you have the same series mobo as me, and the Nvidia Chipset drivers are an absolute must. There were also a few known issues with the out of the box bios, while I never experienced any, I was quick to update nonetheless. Asus update are extremely easy using the update tool in windows downloadable at If you don't have the updated chipset drivers get them from hope this helps, and good luck! |
