Make sure your IP addresses aren't the same. I had that issue just the other day, couldn't see my friends computer cause we had the same IP address. *EDIT* If they are the same you can go into the command prompt (go to run and type "cmd" and hit enter) and type "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew" and that should fix your issue. |

If they are on the same workgroup and have file sharing and print sharing enabled there is nothing barring them access from each other except possible IP problems as Imidril said. I haven't used home edition of either OS but aside from remote desktop connection not being in home I don't remember any local network restrictions on the OS. If you cant get it sorted out, turn both PCs off and your router off for 10 seconds. Turn the router back on first and then your PCs once the router has fully rebooted. This should force an IP renewal much like Imidril's suggestion above. Try sending pings from each PC to the other as well. Get their local IP address from /ipconfig and send ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to the other PC's address. If you can ping each other then the problem lies in your networking settings in Windows. If you can't ping each other then there are a lot of things it could be. |
