All in all not a free pet, its going to be quite costly indeed. Plus with the mana cost that high, i think more then one person may just not bother and end up buying a mount.
and lastly the full quest
I hope you find this interesting, i sure did. Other then the vendor bought items you will need
6 large bril shards
25 dark iron ore
35 black dragonscales
10 potions of shadow power
3 arcanite bars
you go to altar of storms, talk to 2 people, get 2 different chains, one has you going to jaedenar (where you talk to lord, he gives you quest, you kill his servant, get his heart (he also spawns like 4 guards but they're easy) lord tells you to buy some dusts from his friend, it cost 150g) then you haul ass out of there)
then you're off to winterspring to farm 30 blood from the other chain quest giver.
Followed by two quests involving something with your imp in the viewing room of scholo to make the summoning whatever it is.
Then lastly you perform the ritual of summoning in dire maul after you slay immothar. To complete the quest you must defeat the steed after you summon it. Sounds nifty to me.
