In greek mythology, the god of sleep and the god of death were brothers. It was said that if you didn't visit the one on a regular basis, you would surely visit the other.

Only thing i remember about wierd sleep patterns was one time I couldn't sleep, but I stayed in bed all night anyway, basically staring at the ceiling, but still awake. After about 6 hours, it was time to get up and go to work early, about 530am. I was expecting to be wiped that whole day, like I normally am after staying up all night, but to my surprise, I felt pretty good all day. Didn't really notice anything. Then the next night I went to bed at the usual time. Was really strange, and i've never had that happen again.

One way to stay awake: (under the supervision of professionals).

:My friend, he's in the swedish army becoming a "jägargruppsbefäl".. Equivalent to the american marines. Jägar=Marine, Gruppsbefäl=group leader/commander I guess.. Well, the elite of the swedish army anyway. Maybe sweden don't have much, or as much as yous do but for the size of our country we have one of the largest armies in the world, at least we did 10 years ago.. Cutting down a lot now.
Anyway..

Under his final "exam" they started of with around 30 kg's of packing. They were only given a little food and given coordinates. They start off with a small march of 20 km. It's not just walking, but the enemy are everywhere and mostly the crouch, crawl, sprint over short distances.. You get the picture. That took about half a day. They get new orders to keep going, while doing tests (Test ex: The enemy are 1 km away, in an abandoned building.. I need you to kill them or whatever, get killed and it's over) on the way. They walk through the night and in 24 hrs have covered about 40 km, as I said, not just walking.

Everyone is getting sleepy after a very very tough first day and night. They meet an officer at a checkpoint to be given new orders. Another "march" for 24 hours with tests on the way. One of the tests, my friend said it was the worst one was to dig a trench for themselves if the enemy attacks. They dug for 4 hours in hard ground, while the rain poored down. After that peoples hands and feet started to turn white and yellow (their feet had already started to get blisters and were bleeding).

So.. Night comes, officers tell them to make camp and have their first meal for around 12-16 hours. They eat fast cause they were told to and start making the camp. At this rate they are totally exhausted and only pushing forward cause they have come so far in their program. They have finished the camp, but only go get ambushed by the enemy, covered with artillery.

Officers tell them to quicken the pace for 3 km then they can slow down a little..

Ok, you get the picture. In the end they were out for 82 hours. People have just dropped on the road and given up..

This is what I'm doing in 2 years, I'm 18 now and finishing school first.

My dad told me a funny thing aswell. He was a paratrooper and told me that after staying awake for a couple of days he used to always see naked women running around in the forests:) He said that it only happened when it was cold climates (-20 celcius). Also that he saw full platoons walk by.

The reason I'm doing it is because I like the challenge, it's great for when I will be getting a job and people tell me that you become a man, and i need to get a grip on my life.

Nice read, Czamero.

Funny how it said that sleep deprevation may cause obesity. I weigh 120~ pounds, lol.

When I was in High School I would always sleep in English class. What was wierd about it is that somehow, I know it's strange but, I could hear what was going on. The teacher would ask me a question, cause I was sleeping I guess and I could always answer the question. Very wierd but it was nice to be able to do. Next class I had we always watch videos and was pretty much an automatic A, so I slept in that one too. Was pretty cool cause I would always stay up to like 3am every night and sleep during those 2 classes.

Oh yeah, sidenote. I heard that some Nurse's in Hospitals work 18 hour shifts. They take some sort of pill that fakes thier brain to think they are sleeping I think. I'd like to find more on that if anyone can find anything. Maybe there is a way to fake sleep permanently? In Cz's post it talked about brain lodes that didnt function during sleep deprevation, maybe there is some sort of stimulant that can allow those to function without sleep.

Tang, why do I not want to sleep? Think of how much more you can do if you were awake the hours that you slept. If the average human sleeps 7 hours a night, think of how much of their life they spent sleeping!
